This Week: Governor Hochul Fights Back Against Trump’s Power Grab

Meanwhile…Lawler Continues to Face Backlash After Questioning Latino Lawmaker's Citizenship

NEW YORK – This week, Governor Hochul stood up for New Yorkers and fought back against Donald Trump’s latest power grab. In response to Trump declaring himself King and coming directly after New York, Governor Hochul blasted the President’s overreach saying, “I’m here to say: New York hasn’t labored under a king in over 250 years, and we are not, we sure as hell are not going to start now…The streets of this city, where battles were fought, we stood up to a king, and we won then. And in case you don't know New Yorkers: When we're in a fight, we do not back down.”

Meanwhile, it’s been a tough week for Congressman Mike Lawler. In the 72 hours since questioning a Latino lawmaker's citizenship, Lawler has refused to apologize and instead put out an oddly defensive statement attempting to downplay his comments. Of course, this is nothing new for Mike Lawler who has a disturbing pattern of racism.

As a reminder, Lawler said to Jose Alvarado, a Westchester lawmaker, “I don’t know. I assume you’re a citizen. Maybe you’re not. Maybe you are.”
