NEW: Mike Lawler Votes To Advance Republican Budget Proposal That Would Gut Medicaid And Health Care For Millions of New Yorkers

NEW YORK – Mike Lawler voted today to advance a bill that would gut nearly $1 trillion from Medicaid while funding tax giveaways for his ultra-wealthy and big corporation funders. House Republicans’ reckless budget proposal would slash hundreds of billions of dollars from Medicaid, which over 7 million New Yorkers rely on.

Lawler was called out over the weekend for repeatedly dancing around a simple question about protecting Medicaid in an embarrassing exchange on CNN. Yet, Lawler’s vote today to advance Republicans’ agenda to put Medicaid on the chopping block speaks louder than any hollow words he said on national television.

Chairman Jay Jacobs released the following statement:

“Mike Lawler just moved one step closer to sacrificing the health care of over 7 million New Yorkers. After getting embarrassed on national television for dodging a straightforward question about Republican efforts to gut Medicaid, he’s now towing the line for a bill that puts Medicaid on the chopping block while handing tax breaks to his billionaire donors. New Yorkers are looking for leadership and answers from Washington, yet Mike Lawler keeps serving them total horse manure.”
