Today

This morning New Yorkers from Albany to the Bronx funneled into the convention:

Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver opened the morning

Then New York State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins took the stage:

“The time has come to knock down the roadblocks to progress. Let’s stand up for Women’s Equality. Let’s stand up for a woman’s right to choose. Let’s stand up for the Dream Act.”

Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi dialed in to remind us that New York is the Progressive Capital of the nation:

“Democrats are watching NY closely because what happens in NY sends a message to rest of country”

Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito reminded us why being a New Yorker is a great privilege:

“[New York] was the place where all my dreams came true, and I know that we will continue to be that place for native New Yorkers and immigrants alike… if we all work together to protect our shared future”

And before she introduced our candidate for Lieutenant Governor she reminded us why elections matter:

“Elections matter because they are a chance for us to not only stand up for what we believe in, but to actually help people. That we can, and will, make people’s lives better. This attitude is what New York is about. It is in that spirit that I am particularly proud to nominate the person who is going to be the first woman Democratic Lieutenant Governor in 35 Years – Congresswoman Kathy Hochul.

Meanwhile, backstage Governor Mario Cuomo gives some last minute advice to Kathy Hochul before she walks out to accept the nomination for Lieutenant Governor:

And sends a quick note to supporters:

New York has gone through our share of challenges these past several years, but we have responded the way that only New York can — united and with resolve. We put our state first, even when that meant putting aside politics, and acted together— as New Yorkers. This action not only empowered our state to overcome adversity, but enabled us to thrive and build back better than before… Join me and Democrats around the state in making sure that our New York remains the home of the values we hold dear for future generations:
